The C.D. Leganés will receive this Saturday (20:00 hours) the Sevilla F.C. in a duel that will repeat the historic semifinal of the Copa de S.M. El Rey reached by the pepineros in 2018. Three years ago, Blanquiazules and Sevillistas were facing each other for a place in the great final of the tournament, in a qualifying round in which the Sevillenses would end up winning.
Saturday will be the ninth confrontation between Leganés and Seville in Madrid, since, in addition to the cup tournament, they have faced each other three times in the Second Division and four times in the maximum category. The first clash took place still in the former Municipal Luis Rodríguez de Miguel, in 1997, and ended with a pepineran triumph by 1-0 with a goal by Jaime Ramos. In Butarque, Sevilla won the 1998/99 season (0-1) and in 2000/01 they shared the points (1-1, goal by Miguel Ángel).
Tie in Butarque in the only cup duel between both
Sixteen years would have to pass before Leganés and Seville would meet again, and this time in the top category. The first clash between the two in the First Division ended with a 3-2 win on the road, despite goals from Timor and Szymanowski. In 2017/18 they would meet twice, in the historic Copera semi-final (1-1 in the first leg with a goal by Siovas) and in the League, with a blue and white victory by 2-1 with goals by Bustinza and Eraso. In the last two seasons, the Seville team managed to score in Butarque. In 2018/19, they drew 1-1 with a white-blue goal by Mikel Vesga, while last season Julen Lopetegui's team won 3-0 in the white-blue match.
