C.D. Leganés failed to pick up any points in their LALIGA HYPERMOTION matchday seven fixture against C.D. Castellón (0-1). A goal from Cipenga in the first half gave the visitors the win.
Paco López made three changes to the Leganés lineup from the last league match: Ignasi Miquel, Melero, and Álex Millán entered the starting lineup, replacing Marvel, Cissé, who was suspended after his sending off against Las Palmas, and Diego García, who started the match on the bench this time. The first chance of the game came in the 8th minute from Miguel, who finished off a good move between Juan Cruz and Melero with a shot that failed to find the target.
Cipenga put Castellón ahead after half an hour
The Blue and Whites once again made a good start, with Duk and Naim making runs down the wings in the first quarter of an hour, but they were unable to find a finisher. However, in an isolated move, Castellón took the lead through Cipenga, who took advantage of a rebound in the Leganés area to beat Juan Soriano with his left foot and make it 0-1.
Leganés tried to react with another good run down the wing by Naim, which Miguel flicked on and Duk was about to reach. Duk and Lalo both claimed penalties in the Castellón area, but neither Gorka Etayo nor VAR considered them sufficient. The visitors went into the break with a narrow lead.
Leganés' attempts in the second half did not translate into clear scoring opportunities.
The second half began with Leganés' first substitution, with Franquesa coming on for Duk. Franquesa was playing at Butarque again for the first time in more than ten months after his injury and was cheered by the more than 10,000 spectators who filled the stands at Ontime Butarque. The Pepineros went in search of the equalizer with a four-man defense in the second half, with two more substitutions at the hour mark, with Guirao and Roberto López coming on for Melero and Álex Millán.
However, Paco López's side were unable to play their game, with more desire than chances in front of the Castellón area. With just over a quarter of an hour to go, Pauwels replaced Naim in search of more freshness on the left wing. Paco López's final change saw Diego García come on for Juan Cruz in search of more bite in attack. However, the Blue and Whites' attempts lacked clarity and the score remained unchanged.
Leganés remain on seven points in the standings and their next match will be this Saturday (6:30 p.m.) away against F.C. Andorra.
