C.D. Leganés presented this Thursday Miguel Ángel Atienza as the new pepinero player. The Madrid midfielder, proceeding from Burgos C.F., showed himself enthusiastic before his new stage as a blue-and-white player.
The football director of the club, Andrés Pardo, opened the act giving the welcome to the footballer: "For us it is a desire made reality, one of the priority objectives that we had. He is a player with some values that represent what we want, with an incredible energy and a very good trajectory. Ten years ago he was about to sign here. He is a top player of LALIGA and it has been difficult to have him here, but we hope that he enjoys a lot and gives us everything you have."
"I wanted to add a word to his definition, which is talent. We all think of very flashy things, and talent is not only that, but also what he has. A complete player, who gives balance, who gives continuity with the ball, who wins second plays."
On his part, Atienza wanted to begin giving thanks "to Andrés for the confidence, it makes me be convinced to give this so important step and of having taken this decision. I would highlight the insistence of Andrés, which has made me feel very important and very valued. When you have to take these decisions it makes you decant yourself. Also the project of the club, and knowing the club and being from here makes you see what it has grown and what it can continue growing."
Atienza: “We have to place a lot of value on our dressing room, because it earns us points. If we have a winning mindset every day, it will give us a chance.”
Subsequently, the new blue-and-white player responded to the questions of the communications media:
Keys for the team to be solid: "By experience, quality and talent have to exist. Starting from there there are more intangible things, the locker room, the day-to-day mentality, that is what is going to give the option to be at a great level and maintain yourself when things do not go so well, something that happens in a category so demanding."
Important player: "I go day by day. Whenever I am capable of being close to my best version and being able to surpass it I am going to try it. Putting the focus on myself to be able to help. Starting from there, whatever comes."
Expectations: "My maximum ambition as of today is to return to Primera División. As a club it has been two more difficult years, but from prudence and the exigency of the category, that is my objective. Here it has been seen how important the day-to-day is, I am convinced that if we follow that process it will go well."
Rubén Albés: "I have had two calls, one before deciding to see his way of thinking and another after signing. I think we are going to understand each other very well."
Process of his arrival: "The negotiations have been natural. I am a player who is focused on the play and when the season finished everything was natural. What has made me decide and be convinced is the determination that Andrés has shown me, what he wanted about me and what the club wants."
Ontime Butarque: "It has always seemed to me a very complicated stadium. With Eibar I won, but it cost us, and with Burgos I won last year. I have a good memory. I have come a lot in these years, when I was younger, when the team ascended to Segunda División."
Footballing traits: "If I have to say three words, they would be balance, commitment, and mentality."
What he hopes to achieve: "I have an obsession with continuing to grow every day and I feel that it is the right club to achieve it. Starting from there, all the objectives give themselves. I am an obsessed person of the process, when you believe faithfully in everything that allows you to win is what makes you have more possibilities to approach the objectives."
Celebrating the centenary in Primera: "Hopefully it is that way, I would love to help achieve it. It is true that the exigency of the category makes it so you have to carry it with prudence. I have not come here to remain in the middle of the table, but the season finished how it finished and one has to go taking steps."
Hard beginnings: "In its moment I did not understand why things happened. It has made me much better in everything. They were hard months, ten years ago that situation could not give itself and it does give itself now. I am very satisfied to be here in these moments."
Qualities as a midfielder: "I am always accustomed to doing that work that is seen less. But that helps to make better everything that surrounds you. I am very comfortable from here and contributing to making my teammates better with those synergies."
Regularity: "I have always believed that if you are regular and you are available you have more value. For that you have to care to the maximum detail what depends on yourself. Afterward there are external situations that make it so you might not have so many minutes, but it is key for the manager to decide. I adapt well to the message they give me."
Position on the field: "It can adapt to anything. I have had pairs of midfielders of different characteristics, in Burgos I had that role of giving balance, but in Eibar or at the beginning in Burgos I had another player of more defensive characteristics. Open to what can give itself."
Needs of the club: "Perhaps I should have lived more what the club is. They have clear what needs to be incorporated to take that step, but I think that one has to give a lot of value to the locker room, because it gives points. If we have a winning mentality every day it is going to give us possibility."
Andrés Pardo: "We needed a player like this; he's a player who has shown exponential growth over the past few seasons."
Subsequently, it was Andrés Pardo who responded to the questions of the press:
Process of the signing: "There were difficulties because he is a player who has had an exponential growth in the last seasons. In the last one he has given an important jump and has had interest from many teams. He was focused on his day, we had been talking for months with his environment and we positioned ourselves to be able to deepen when LALIGA finished. It was a priority."
Possible exits of Miguel and Duk: "Until there is not something signed I do not like to talk. The exit of Miguel is more confirmed, and of the other perhaps we can talk next week."
Next step: "The market is going to go determining it for us. We have a clear rumbo since weeks ago, we know what players we understand must leave and enter, and as the situations that have been worked on for months go giving themselves we will see how we go advancing. The times are determined by the market."
Atienza as a reinforcement: "If we all take as reference the team of August we had a different idea to what has happened. We did not think that we could have those deficiencies. We needed a profile like that of Atienza. I think that all can be important and that they have level. The manager will be the one who decides."
Moment of the signing: "It is when the yes is said and it is signed, and of that it makes not many days. In those conversations he also had the conviction that Leganés could be his place. The project pulled him, but he had to know it with depth."
Priorities: "I think there will be movement in the back part, but more from midfield forward. We have not rendered well, we have not competed well, although we have been the fourth least goleated team. I could not say a determined number."
Attractiveness of the club: "I think it is the power that we can demonstrate as a club. We have to learn from errors and try to minimize everything possible so that we all can enjoy and that it can be a good year. I do not think in the medium nor in the long term, the thought is in the first match of pre-season. We want to train, live a good day and that things go happening with the training and the sacrifice. We are going to enjoy that process."
