C.D Leganés will play against Deportivo Alavés this Saturday (18:30h) at Butarque. It will mean the second away visit to pepinero’s home for Asier Garitano since he left the club on 2018. The now Alavés’ manager has already visited Butarque as part of an away team on last’s season match against Real Sociedad.
Asier Garitano coached C.D Leganés for five seasons. Under his command the team managed to promote to Segunda División on 2014 and Primera División on 2016 (first promotion in club’s history). The club also performed to stay at first division for two more seasons and qualify to Copa de S.M. El Rey’ semifinals once. With 222 matches with C.D Leganés, Garitano is the second person with more matches coached for the pepineros in history after Luis Ángel Duque. 87 wins, 59 draws and 76 losses define his numbers at the club.
This will be the third time Garitano faces his former club and the second time he visits Butarque since he left C.D Leganés in 2018. The last C.D Leganés’ home match against a team coached by Asier was on August 24, 2018 against Real Sociedad, the result was a draw (2-2) – two goals scored by El Zhar for the pepineros and goals from Illaramendi and Zurutuza por the donostiarras.
C.D Leganés and Alavés have already met with Garitano as Alavés’ manager, the match was played at Mendizorroza on December 13th and ended up in a tie (1-1), Braithwaite scored for Leganés and Joselu equalized for the locals.
