C.D Leganés reinforces its defense with Ignasi Miquel

C.D Leganés and Getafe C.D have agreed the loan of 27-year-old Ignasi Miquel Pons for one season. The deal includes a mandatory buy option clause in case the pepineros are promoted to LaLiga Santander by the end of the 2020/21 season.

Miquel was formed at F.C Barcelona, R.C.D Espanyol and U.E Cornellà youth teams and was signed in 2008/09 by Arsenal F.C. He made his debut with the gunners in the 2010/11 season for an F.A Cup match. One year later he made his Premier League and Champions League debut. He ended his stage with the club from London with fourteen caps and one goal. He was loaned to Leicester City in the 2013/14 season and played later for Norwich City.

First Division, Premier League and Champions League experience

The defender from Cataluña returned to Spain in 2015 to play for S.D Ponferradina and the next year for C.D Lugo. He was signed by Málaga to play in First Division in the 2017/18 season. He was signed by Getafe C.F after half a season with Málaga and played ten games for the azulones.

Ignasi Miquel was loaned to Girona F.C last season and played 24 official games there. He was always available for he now pepineros’ coach José Luis Martí. He reached the promotion playoff final.

Miquel has played for the Spanish National Team on all its categories. He was Europe Champion with the U-19 team in 2011 and made his debut later with the U-21 team. Left-footed central defender with great ball control. He will join his teammates as soon as possible.
