C.D Leganés could not get any points after the fifth matchday of LaLiga SmartBank against Girona F.C (0-1). The pepineros had chances to take the points but a goal by Mamadou Sylla gave the win for the visitors.
José Luis Martí made four changes to the team that played last week at Castellón: Cuéllar replaced Diego Conde after recovering from his injury, Sergi Palencia replaced Omeruo playing in the right back, Gaku Shibasaki was replaced by Rubén Pardo and Javier Avilés returned to the starting line-up replacing Javi Eraso.
The first occasion was for C.D Leganés after an intense first fifteen minutes: Rubén Pardo with a free kick that was saved by Juan Carlos, Sabin Merino was close to score after the stop. The match was intense in the first half with big pressure from both teams.
Mamadou Sylla scored first for Girona F.C before the break
Rubén Pardo was close to score after the first half an hour through a corner kick that was stopped by Juan Carlos. Samu Sáiz had the first chance for the visitors who got the lead in the 38’ after a goal by Mamadou Sylla. Arnaiz almost scored the tying goal minutes later.
Sylla was close to increase the lead for the visitors after a strong left-footed shoot that kicked the post. Minutes before the end of the first half Ignasi Miquel had the chance to score but his header went up. It was 0-1 after the first half.
No reward after some chances in the second half
Juan Muñoz replaced Avilés after the break and was close to score with a header that hit the post. Some minutes later it was Santos the one that got into the pitch replacing Sabin Merino. The Uruguayan had a header in the 64’ after a cross by Borja Bastón that did not find the goal. Girona had another chance as well with t free kick that went up.
Martí’s third substitution was Eraso replacing Rubén Pardo. Leganés was close to score in the 76’ with a crossed shoot by Santos. Borja Bastón later had another occasion but could not beat Juan Carlos’ goal. Arnaiz tried in the 83rd but his shoot went out by inches.
Miguel de la Fuente got into the pitch in the final part of the match making his debut with the white and blues. He had a chance in the 92’ but could not find the goal. C.D Leganés could not score the tying goal and remains with six points in the table. The team’s next match will be against U.D Logroñes at Las Gaunas next Saturday 17th (20:30h).
