C.D. Leganés earned a point in their second match of the LALIGA HYPERMOTION season against Cádiz C.F. (1-1). Naim put the "pepineros" ahead before halftime, and Brian equalized for the visitors in the second half.
C.D. Leganés made their debut at Ontime Butarque with only one change in their lineup compared to their league opener at El Alcoraz: Lalo Aguilar replaced Ignasi Miquel in the center of defense. Diego García had the first attempt for the "pepineros" in the 5th minute, with a low shot that went close to the right post of the Cádiz goal. In the 11th minute, Diego himself scored after a play by Rubén Peña and a subsequent shot by Duk, but the '19' was offside, and the referee disallowed the goal.
Naim, assisted by Duk, put Leganés ahead just before halftime
Lega sought to take the lead, and in the 22nd minute, Miguel had a chance, but Aznar saved the '9's shot. The Valladolid native tried again shortly after with another shot that went wide. Duk and Rubén Peña were the main protagonists of the "pepineros" offense in a first half dominated by Paco López's team. Cádiz's best chance came in the 42nd minute through García Pascual, whose shot went close to Juan Soriano's right post.
Lega's persistence paid off in added time of the first half: Duk made a great run down the left wing, getting past several opponents and delivering the ball to the far post, where Naim appeared to finish with his right foot and score the first goal of the match, much to the delight of the nearly 10,000 fans in the stands at Butarque. Lega went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Brian equalized in the second half after a corner kick
The second half began with no changes for the "pepineros," as Lega looked to maintain their lead against a Cádiz side that aimed to step up with the introduction of Brian and Ontiveros. In the 65th minute, Paco López made his first substitution, bringing on Pauwels in place of a well-applauded Duk. Miguel had a chance immediately after following a good play by Diawara, but his weak shot was caught by Aznar. Shortly after, Diawara nearly connected with a great cross from Rubén Peña.
In the 69th minute, Cádiz equalized the match from a set piece: Ontiveros took a corner from the right, and Brian struck it first-time to make it 1-1, leaving Juan Soriano with no chance. Diego had an opportunity in the 74th minute after a great layoff from Miguel, but his shot was stopped by Aznar just as the crowd was ready to celebrate a goal.
Lega tried to push for a winner with late substitutions, bringing on Melero, Guirao, Óscar Plano, and Álex Millán, but their efforts did not translate into clear chances on goal. The last opportunity fell to Cádiz through Ontiveros, but his shot went wide after a series of combinations in the "pepineros" area.
Thus, Leganés recorded their second consecutive draw and now looks ahead to their next match, which will take place on Monday, September 1st (9:30 PM) at Ontime Butarque against R.C. Deportivo.
