C.D. Leganés goalkeeper Iván Villar debuted for the team last Saturday. The netminder's first minutes for the pepineros came against S.D. Amorebieta on home ground and were a cause for celebration as the final whistle blew, with no goals conceded.
Villar's arrival brings a sense of completion to Asier Garitano's side after a comprehensive performance in his first game, showing himself to be decisive and alert after he was called into action only a few minutes after kick off to deny a forceful strike from Orozko. Originally from Aldán, the keeper made his first appearance in LaLiga SmartBank after playing 26 games for R.C. Celta in LaLiga Santander last season.
"I was very keen to play, and especially in front of the fans, who were incredible"
After the match, Iván expressed his satisfaction over the win and his debut: "I was very keen to play, and especially in front of the fans, who were incredibly motivating from the first whistle. Getting all three points today was important to them, and I'm very happy for that. We have to value our victory and draw our strength from it for the next game against Mirandés".
Regarding his goalkeeping pair, Asier Garitano only had words of praise to share with the press: "Iván had a great game, but the key part was his attitude to training day in day out in the past weeks when he hasn't played. He's been an exemplary and dignified player, the same as Asier Riesgo. It's not a easy or straightforward change to make, and Asier responded exceptionally".
