C.D Leganés’ midfielder Rubén Pérez scored his first goal as a pepinero last Sunday in the match played against Valencia C.F. The sevillano scored a penalty kick that meant his first goal with Leganés and his second in his career.
The team’s second captain had only scored one goal in first division matches until yesterday: on a goal playing for Real Betis against F.C Barcelona on May 5th, 2013. After 260 matches in the top category and 127 as a pepinero, Rubén scored the penalty kick called by Melero López on the 18’ after Kondogbia touched the ball with his hand in the area. That goal helped the team to take the three points.
“I was only thinking about scoring”
The number 21 referred about the penalty kick against Valencia: “We have to assume responsibilities and I asked the manager to be the one to shoot the next penalty. I had the luck to be the one and to score, helping the team to get the win. I am happy, scoring and getting close to the teams that are above us were the only things I had in my mind”
Rubén believes the win against the ché is key to remain with options: “this win puts our mood up, we have taken seven points of nine. I still think that keeping the goal in zero is key for us because we do not score too many goals. We still have options and are alive. Even though we do not depend on ourselves, we will fight till the end”.
