Sergi Palencia: “With this project and the objective, it can be a beautiful year"

C.D Leganés has officially presented the right back Sergi Palencia. The defender comes from Saint-Étienne. He made his debut last Sunday against Castellón and was happy and excited about his arrival to the club even though the team could not win on his first match.

C.D Leganés’ sports director Txema Indias welcomed the defender and highlighted his qualities: “We have been wanting to have a right back for a while and with him and Rosales we count with two players that bring guarantees to the club. He has been with F.C Barcelona Academy since he was ten years old and has a lot of experience despite his age. He jumped to the French league with Saint-Étienne and now we are lucky to have him with us this year”.

“Rodri Tarín said great things about the club and gave me the illusion and the desire to come”

Sergi Palencia thanked the club about the trust on him: “I have learnt a lot since I left Barcelona to go to France, but last season was difficult, and I wanted to return to Spain. I have heard great things about the environment of the club and its project, and I thank them to consider me, I am happy to be here”.

The right back had good words for his new club and teammates: “There is a huge and complete squad for such a demanding category, it is a great group. Football is not only about having good players but creating a good team and that is what I have seen on the recent years. I know Rodri Tarín, we have been together at Barcelona’s academy for six or seven years and I consider him as one of my best friends. He said great things about the club and gave me the illusion and the desire to come”.

“Leganés is a club that has done things well in the recent years”

Palencia was asked about how he saw Leganés from the outside: “With this project and the objective, it can be a beautiful year. Leganés is a club that has done things well in the recent years, it should be in first division and I am here to help. The club transmits a good image and ambition, there are important players that have stayed at the club and other have arrived. The seriousness of the project and my desire to return are the things that seduced me”.

At the end, the defender talked about his debut at Castellón: “I felt good, I had not competed for a while but on the other hand I could not enjoy it because of the loss. There were not spaces and the rhythm were slow, so it made it hard.  Whoever thinks that it will be easy is wrong. The second division is long and competitive, all the teams make it difficult for you and you must put your 200% on every match. I feel ready and good about the competition, that makes everyone to be better. To learn from an experienced player as Rosales will be good for me”.
