Six years have passed since the promotion at L'Hospitalet

Today, six years have passed since C.D Leganés reached the promotion to second division in 2014 at L’Hospitalet. The pepineros returned to first division after ten years playing on Segunda 'B' in a match that will remain in the memories of all the fans and a bicycle kick goal by Carlos Álvarez.

Leganés had ended the regular season second in the league having fought until the last matchday to become group champion, at the end Sestao River was the champion. Asier Garitano’s team qualified for their second consecutive play-off and their fourth in six years with the hope to reach the goal of being promoted.

Guijuelo, Lleida and L’Hospitalet were on the way

Leganés beat Guijuelo on the first round after tying without goals on the away match and winning (1-0) at Butarque with a goal scored by Carlos Álvarez. Lleida Esportiu, the team that eliminated Leganés on the last year was up to be the next rival. The result was the same as with Guijuelo: 0-0 at Camp d’Esports and 1-0 at Butarque with a goal by Mantovani on extra time.

The White and blues managed to win agaisnt L’Hospitalet at home (1-0) with a goal scored by “El Guaje”. On the away match played at Catalunya, Leganés managed to defend their lead. Asier Garitano’s team that day was: Queco Piña, Postigo, Mantovani, Santamaría, Luis Ruiz, Alberto Martín, Eraso, Fer Ruiz, Fran Moreno, Álvaro García and Carlos Álvarez. Candela, Carlos de la Vega and Pírez also played during the match.

Leganés was organized and defined everything before half time: a throw in by Postigo to Fer Ruiz who managed to cross the ball and a bicycle kick goal scored by Carlos Álvares. The pepineros’ fans who traveled to Barcelona that day got crazy.

Leganés controlled the advantage on the second half and even though the locals scored , the pepineros reached their second promotion to Segunda Division in their history (the previous one was on 1993). Lega was back.
