C.D. Leganés earned a point in their visit to Real Sporting (0-0). The match, which resumed on Monday after being suspended due to the death of a local fan on Sunday, ended goalless after a hard-fought encounter in which Lega failed to create any clear scoring chances.
The match, which was due to be played on Sunday, was marked by the suspension of the game in the third minute due to the death of a local fan in the stadium. All parties involved agreed to resume play on Monday, March 2, picking up from the point of suspension the previous day.
Dani Rodríguez had Lega's best chance in the first half.
With Rubén Peña and Marvel out due to injury, Ignasi Miquel, Naim, Juan Cruz, and Asue, who was enjoying his first start as a Pepinero player, came into Igor Oca Figueredo's team. With the ball back in play after the restart and a tribute to the deceased fan by both clubs and fans, in the 14th minute, Lalo committed a penalty on Otero, but VAR, after seven minutes of review, ruled out the action due to a previous offside by the Sporting striker.
In the 31st minute, Lega had their first dangerous chance, with a free kick taken by Dani Rodríguez that Lalo headed just over the bar. Sporting responded with a chance for Gelabert that crashed against the left post of Juan Soriano's goal. In added time, Lega had their best chance, with Dani Rodríguez, assisted by Juan Cruz, but his left-footed shot went high. The score remained 0-0 at halftime.
Juan Soriano thwarted Sporting's best chances to keep the score level.
With no changes at the start of the second half, Sporting began by trying to lay siege to the Pepinera area, with Juan Soriano making a good save in the 52nd minute from a free kick by Corredera. Lega tried to cool the game down and have more possession, but failed to trouble Yáñez's goal. In the 60th minute, Óscar Plano tried his luck from distance, but his left-footed shot failed to find the target.
In the 66th minute, Igor Oca made his first changes, bringing on Melero and Álex Millán in place of Óscar Plano and Asue in search of more attacking bite. However, Leganés failed to create any dangerous chances, although they looked organized at the back. In the 80th minute, Juan Soriano was called into action again to deny Otero, making a huge save to tip his shot over for a corner. Shortly after, Cissé and Duk came on for Lalo, who was struggling with an injury, and Naim, with Diawara moving to center back.
There was no time for more, and Leganés picked up points for the second consecutive matchday to move up to 34 points in the standings. The Pepineros' next match will be on Sunday (6:30 p.m.) at Ontime Butarque against S.D. Eibar.
