C.D. Leganés picked up a point in their matchday 40 fixture against S.D. Huesca at the Ontime Butarque Stadium (0-0). The "pepineros" had the best chances of the game and an Asue goal disallowed following a VAR review, but were unable to walk away with all three points.
Igor Oca introduced two changes compared to the last "pepinero" lineup, with Rubén Peña—now recovered from his injury—and Roberto López—returning from suspension—coming in for Duk and Cissé, who started on the bench this time around.
More dominance for Lega in the first half, though without major chances
The clash started evenly, with no major goalscoring opportunities in the opening fifteen minutes. Lega tried to threaten primarily down the wings, with Rubén Peña and Naim pushing deep down the flanks, but they struggled to find attempts on Dani Martín's goal. The first shot for the home side came in the 22nd minute after a long sequence by Roberto López, which the Zaragoza native finished with a left-footed strike that missed the target.
In the 25th minute, Naim produced an individual effort and finished with his right foot, sending the ball just wide of the right post. Another chance fell to Juan Cruz in the 29th minute, who cut past Carrillo and fired a shot that brushed the woodwork. Naim tried again in the 40th minute from the edge of the box, but Dani Martín blocked the effort after it deflected off the Huesca defense. The match went into the break at a 0-0 deadlock.
Asue goal disallowed following VAR review for an alleged handball
With no changes for Lega after the restart, Roberto López tried his luck from long range in the 55th minute, but failed to catch Dani Martín off guard. He tested the keeper again in the 57th minute with a powerful left-footed shot that the Huesca shot-stopper parried away with difficulty. On the hour mark, Igor Oca made his first substitution, bringing on Duk for Rubén Peña to refresh the right flank. Shortly after, Óscar Plano and Asue replaced Roberto López and Diego García to inject more bite into the attack.
It was precisely Asue who would become the main protagonist of the match's defining moment in the 76th minute. The Equatorial Guinean found the back of the net after intercepting a pass from goalkeeper Dani Martín, but the referee, following a VAR review, disallowed the goal for an alleged handball by the "pepinero" striker. Óscar Plano also had an opportunity, but his left-footed strike sailed over the bar after a great piece of play by Duk. Pulido and Cissé came on in the final stretch, during which Juan Soriano had to make a sharp save from an Agbekpornu header—Huesca's only real chance of the match.
A stalemate at the final whistle leaves Leganés with 43 points in the standings. The next match for the "pepineros" will take place this Sunday (18:30 CET) away against Cádiz C.F.
