C.D. Leganés drew in their visit to U.D. Almería (1-1), in a match in which they played with a numerical disadvantage from the 15th minute due to the expulsion of Rubén Pérez. Morlanes gave the home side the lead in stoppage time, but Juan Muñoz, from the penalty spot in minute 99', rescued a point for the pepineros.
Asier Garitano made five changes to the lineup compared to the team that started seven days earlier against C.F. Fuenlabrada. Fuenlabrada: Riesgo replaced Cuéllar in goal, making his debut in LaLiga SmartBank with the Pepinero shirt; Bustinza and Omeruo replaced the injured Tarín and Ignasi Miquel in defense; Shibasaki replaced Eraso in midfield, and Sabin Merino took the place of José Arnaiz up front.
The first shot came from the locals, in a quick action by Robertone that was well cleared by Riesgo. In the next action, Borja Bastón failed to finish a second action after a set piece. In minute 6, once again, Riesgo saved a header from Sadiq. And in minute 12, Borja Bastón failed to find the target with his right foot.
Strict sending-off of Rubén Pérez in the 15th minute at the behest of the VAR.
The match was going to get tough for Leganés in the 15th minute, when referee López Toca sent off Rubén Pérez at the behest of the VAR after first showing him the yellow card for an action in the center of the field with the ball divided. In the next action, Riesgo again blocked a dangerous shot from Brian Rodríguez. Leganés tried to react and, after a minute, had a chance from a set piece when Bustinza's shot was saved by Akieme.
Asier Garitano recomposed the team in a 4-4-1 formation, with Palencia and Sabin Merino on the sides of the midfield and Borja up top. The well-organized Pepineros made it difficult for the home team, who couldn't find space, and tried to reach the opponent's area, as in 43' when Rubén Pardo shot but Makaridze saved. With the 0-0 score at halftime, the game went into the break.
A tidy Leganés withstood the local onslaught in inferiority.
The second half started with the same tone, with a first shot by Juan Villar for Almería in minute 50. Leganés responded in minute 52 with a shot by Rubén Pardo that was blocked by Makaridze, but the locals had a great chance right after with a shot by Sadiq that hit the crossbar. On the hour mark, Asier Garitano made his first change, bringing on Luis Perea to strengthen the midfield in place of Sabin Merino.
Leganés had a great chance in the 70th minute when Rubén Pardo's counterattack was saved in extremis by Makaridze. Then, Juan Muñoz replaced Borja Bastón to give air to the attack. In the 74th minute, Riesgo saved again for Leganés with a point-blank save from Akieme. In minute 80, Asier made a number of substitutions with Rosales and José Arnaiz coming on for Javi Hernández and Rubén Pardo. Sadiq again hit the crossbar in the 84th minute for the locals.
Morlanes gave Almería the lead in minute 91 and Juan Muñoz equalized in the last play in minute 99.
The referee added three minutes, and in minute 91, Morlanes scored the 1-0 that seemed definitive for Almería. However, in the last play, Rosales passed a throw-in to the area and Bustinza and Maras disputed the aerial ball. The VAR alerted López Toca, who decreed a penalty in favor of Leganés after reviewing the play. Juan Muñoz converted the penalty to score his third goal of the season.
This was the end of a match that leaves Leganés in fourth position with 54 points. Their next match will be this Thursday (19:00), again away against R.C.D. Mallorca.
