C.D. Leganés will visit U.D. Almería this Saturday (18:15) for the sixth time in an official match, in a duel that has always been played in the silver category of our soccer. The pepineros won twice, in the 2002/03 and 2003/04 seasons.
The first visit took place on the first matchday of the 1995/96 season, and ended in a draw (1-1) thanks to a goal by Javi López for Luis Sánchez Duque's team. The following year, the Blue and Whites were unable to win at the Juan Rojas stadium, losing 3-2 despite goals from Miguel Ángel and Moisés, thanks to a late Almeria goal.
Victories with Argentinian accents and defeat in the first match of the promotion season
In the 21st century, Leganés won two consecutive victories in Almería. In the 2002/03 season, Enrique Martín's men earned three vital points in the penultimate matchday with a 2-0 win thanks to a Pablo Calandria brace. Just a few months later, the Argentinean's Leganés, coached by Carlos Aimar, won again in Almería, this time by 1-3 with goals from Borja Pérez, Pablo Rodríguez and, once again, Calandria. The last visit, the most recent in time, took place on the first matchday of the 2015/16 season, which would end with Leganés being promoted to the First Division. However, that opening match started badly for Asier Garitano's side, who were already 3-0 down after 25 minutes. Paco Candela, with a great goal from a free kick, and Guillermo reduced the deficit, although they could not avoid defeat. Five and a half years after that last encounter, U.D. Almería and C.D. Leganés will meet again at the Estadio de los Juegos del Mediterráneo.
