As if it was today… four years ago Leganés achieved the historic promotion to LaLiga Santander, this was the first promotion to the first category of the club in its 88 years. The pepineros won against Mirandés at Anduva (0-1) and finished a remarkable season with the historic promotion just two years after leaving Segunda División 'B'.
Leganés depended on themselves to reach the promotion: If the team won at Anduve then it would be part of the first division. If not, then they should wait that Nàstic did not win against Alavés which had already been promoted on the previous matchday and was looking for the championship.
With their fans supporting them after traveling to Miranda de Ebro, Asier Garitano’s Leganés starting lineup was: Serantes, Bustinza, Mantovani, Insua, Albizua, Sastre, Timor, Miramón, Gabriel, Szymanowski and Rubén Peña. Alberto Martín, Asdrúbal and César Soriano also played during the second half.
Mirandés was not an easy rival for Lega that match. The pepineros had some chances on the first half but could not concrete them. Some minutes after the start of second half Timor crossed the ball after a corner kick and Pablo Insua with a header scored the 0-1, all the visiting fans and an entire city were dreaming.
From that moment to the end of the match Leganés tried to keep the score knowing that Nàstic was winning on their match as well. Some minutes after Alavés tied the match at Tarragona. Ocón Arráiz, the match referee called the end of the match and Leganés was one party. The team was a first division one and the entire city went out to the streets to celebrate with the players that arrived to Fuente Honda in a special celebration bus.
June 4th, 2016 is a day that will remain in history for C.D Leganés: the day that the team was promoted to first division.
