As if it was today… Twenty-seven years ago Leganés won against Palencia at Municipal Luis Rodríguez de Miguel stadium (2-0) for the first promotion to Segunda División match, the first played by the team in 65 years of history.

The pepineros had ended the 1992/93 season as champions of their Segunda División 'B' group and were to face a six-match league to get the chance to play in professional football. Elche, Xerez and Palencia were the rivals the pepineros had on that phase.

The first match of the white and blues was at home and Luis Ángel Duque’s initial squad was: Aguilera, Pizarro, Mesas, David, Juanma, Chuso, Fernando, May, Peces, Miguel Ángel and Antonio. Infantes and Enrique got to play during the second half.

After a first half with no goals, Leganés took the lead after May’s goal on second half. Miguel Ángel increased that lead with a penalty kick goal that allowed the team to claim the three points that day. Lega started on a proper way the playoff.
