C.D. Leganés' coach, Asier Garitano, held a press conference this Friday ahead of his team's match against Girona F.C. at Montilivi this Sunday (2:00 p.m.), corresponding to the 24th LaLiga SmartBank matchday.
The coach confirmed the absence of José Arnaiz, with a small muscle tear that will keep him away from the pitch for at least two or three weeks, and Jonathan Silva, with knee discomfort after the match against C.D. Lugo, in addition to the absence of Luis Perea, due to suspension.
The coach from Bergara spoke of the importance of the match against the Catalans: "It is important because it is the next game. It is an opponent that last year was close to promotion and with decisive players that will push us to the limit. In the previous game we were good, but now we are away from home and we have to improve. They have a strong squad, they have the same talent, the same coach, the same idea? We have to focus on ourselves and be a little bit better each time, and more so away from home, where we have struggled so far," he analyzed.
"Girona has always had great teams and it's not easy to get something out of there".
Montilivi has not historically been good for C.D. Leganés, but Asier downplays the importance of playing away: "Currently I don't think there is much difference from home to away. As there is no public, this factor is reduced, but Girona has always had great teams and it is not easy to get something out of there. We will prepare ourselves to be able to achieve it", he assured.
In Girona he will be joined by Pedro Hernández, who joined this week as the new assistant coach, and about whom Asier had words of praise: "We had to wait to incorporate him, but we are happy because it was what we wanted. We thought it was worth waiting, he knows our way of working, the club... he is talented and he will help us. He's talented and he's going to help us, just like Queco."
"We must insist on improving everything, but without becoming obsessed."
Asier sees his players well after a little more than a week working with them: "When there is a dismissal, at the beginning it is difficult, but we had the first game with a victory and we continue working with joy. We must insist on improving everything, but without becoming obsessed".
Finally, he spoke about Brandon ("he has experience, speed, he comes from achieving important things but he also comes from a long term injury and it takes time. He will gradually get closer to his best version and we will try to take advantage of that"), and Bustinza, who will be available again after serving his suspension: "He performs well in all positions, at center-back, at full-back, in the dressing room... we have no problem with him", he concluded.
