On Thursday afternoon, C.D. Leganés officially presented the Balearic striker Brandon Thomas as a new player. The striker was excited about his arrival at the club, and hopes to contribute to the team to achieve its objectives in this second round of the championship.
The sports manager of C.D. Leganés, Txema Indias, was in charge of welcoming him, but not before referring to the player who left the club hours before Brandon's arrival: "With the departure of Dani Ojeda, we did not want to weaken the squad. Dani has been an example in everything and we can only thank him for everything he has given us and wish him the best of luck. We had the possibility of bringing in Brandon and from the first call he conveyed to us more desire to sign him. He made it very clear that, if he left Osasuna, it would only be to come here and so it has been. He is a player who started very young and has had experience in First and Second Division, French soccer... even though he is only 25 years old. Welcome and good luck".
"I had several offers, but if I had not come here, I would have stayed in Osasuna; I did not want to listen to anything beyond Leganés."
For his part, Brandon wanted to start by thanking the club for betting on his incorporation: "Grateful to the club for having welcomed me so well. They had told me wonderful things about the club and I am realizing that it is so. I am also grateful to the coach for trusting me to come here, I want to do my bit to bring Leganés back to where it deserves".
The Balearic forward said he was clear about where he wanted to be: "I had several offers but I did not want to listen beyond Leganés, if I did not come here I would stay in Osasuna to fight for a place. I didn't think about it, I wanted to come and I was enthusiastic about the project. I want to bring my character, fight, desire and if possible goals and assists. The Second Division is a very nice category, I come to a club that is of First Division and I want to do well to take it where it deserves," he said.
"The goal has to be to be at the top, we are ambitious but we have to go game by game".
Brandon, who revealed that he feels comfortable "up top with two strikers or on the left wing", gave his first impression of the club and the squad after his first days at Leganés: "I would highlight that this is a humble club, which has grown a lot on its own merits. At present there is room for improvement, there is a squad for much more, but the category is very complicated. We have to go with the mentality of adding matches and trying to win them. When you drop down from the First Division, the objective is always to go up again. The objective has to be to be at the top, but we have to take it one game at a time. We are ambitious and we want to be at the top. If we think beyond Sunday's match, we will be making a mistake," he said.
Asked about José Luis Martí, with whom he coincided as a teammate at R.C.D. Mallorca and who was his coach last season at Girona F.C., the '7' pepinero had words of praise: "The coach knows a lot about soccer, he has very clear ideas and we work very well during the week to prepare for the matches. He is a fundamental part of my being here, he gave me a lot of confidence in Girona and I gave it back to him until the time of the injury".
"I feel recovered from the injury, I am available and I hope to do well."
Precisely about his physical condition after the injury that had him out of action for several months, Brandon sees himself in perfect condition: "I thought I was going to be worse after the injury, when I reappeared with Osasuna I played 90 minutes in Copa without any muscle injury, and then another game. I feel good, with a stable knee and without any pain, so I'm available and I hope to do well".
Finally, he referred to the strong competition he will have to face in the attacking front, something he believes is beneficial for the group: "I have never been afraid, I have experienced good and not so good things. Competition is very good for the team and that is a plus. I will have to earn continuity by doing my best if I have to play and, if not, by helping my teammates", he concluded.
