C.D. Leganés won convincingly (0-5) against Real Zaragoza on the last day of the regular league in the prelude to the play-offs for promotion to the First Division, which they will face as third. They did so at La Romareda thanks to an excellent game by the pepineros and goals by Kevin, Juan Muñoz twice, Rubén Pardo and Miguel de la Fuente. The biggest away win in the history of the Leganenses. The last one, in Badajoz (1-5) in 93/94.
Asier Garitano's men wanted to present their candidacy for promotion in the best possible way, clearing any kind of doubt in a match in which they were clearly dominant, solid in defense and very unbalanced in the opponent's field. The interlining and combinative play of the pepineros allowed them to generate chances and the players from Madrid did not forgive.
Before the gale, there was time to pay tribute to C.D. Leganés player Daniel Lasure, on loan from Real Zaragoza, who is on leave due to a testicular tumor injury, with both teams displaying the banner 'Ánimo Lasu', wishing him a speedy recovery.
Kevin Bua and Juan Muñoz sentenced the match in the first half.
Only fifteen minutes of the match were needed to open the scoreboard and it would be thanks to a magnificent assist from Miguel de la Fuente that left Kevin Bua alone in front of the goalkeeper, whom he beat with a strong cross shot.
After another fifteen minutes, Juan Muñoz put the glove on his boots and made it 0-2 with a precise free kick goal. C.D. Leganés was feeling very well and despite the advantage, continued to dominate possession and in search of a third goal that, after a shot against the post again by Juan Muñoz, would arrive on the stroke of halftime also by the Utrerano. After a good triangulation in the balcony of the area, Juan Muñoz with a subtle vaselina would overcome the local goal with a great display of talent.
Rubén Pardo and Miguel extended the score after the restart.
In the second half and with the feeling of having the game under control, C.D. Leganés was not satisfied and went for more. Asier Garitano brought on Rubén Pardo and Sergio González, and it was the former who took advantage of the few minutes he had been on the pitch to score the fourth goal thanks to a strong cross shot from the edge of the area.
A few minutes later and from the same position, Miguel would put the fifth goal in the scoreboard by placing the ball in the corner. The Blue and Whites' coach continued to make changes to the bench and Borja Bastón and Ignasi Miquel came on the pitch, after several matches absent due to injury. Gaku also came on, while the team from the south of Madrid continued to show great power on the green of La Romareda.
With the final whistle, C.D. Leganés closed its second best Second Division classification in its history with 73 points and in third position. They will play the first round of the play-off for promotion to the First Division against Rayo Vallecano on Thursday at the Rayo's home ground at 21:00h and on Sunday the second leg at the Estadio Municipal Butarque, also at the same time.
