This Sunday, C.D. Leganés will visit U.D. Las Palmas for the thirteenth time in an official match in its history. The pepineros will be looking for their fourth victory at the Yellows' home, after those achieved in the 2002/03, 2004/05 and 2017/18 seasons, in their last encounter at the Estadio de Gran Canaria.
The first official clash between the two sides on the islands took place in the Copa del Rey in the 1995/96 season, with a 1-1 tie in Las Palmas, with Belenguer scoring a goal for the Pepineros. Subsequently, they met for four consecutive seasons in the Second Division at the end of the nineties, clashes in which the Blue and Whites only managed a couple of ties.
A 2-0 win in 2017 with goals from Beauvue and Eraso.
With the new century came the first victory in insular territory, with a 1-4 drubbing in the 2002/03 campaign with goals from Miguel Ángel, Fede Marín, Villa and Sívori. The following year, the Argentinean's Leganés drew (2-2) with goals from Enría and Fede Domínguez. With the relegation of both clubs to Second Division 'B', Las Palmas and Leganés would meet again in 2005 and 2006, with a win for the Pepineros (1-2 with a double by Marcos Márquez) and a goalless tie. Almost a decade later, the Yellows and Blue and Whites faced each other again in the Second Division, in a 2014 match that ended in a 1-0 defeat for the Pepineros with a goal of Asdrúbal, who would later be part of the squad that achieved the historic promotion to the First Division in 2016. Already in the elite would pass the last two precedents: a tie in 2016/17 (1-1, goal by Guerrero) and the 2017 victory by 0-2 with goals by Beauvue and Eraso. The total balance is three wins for each team and six ties.
