This Sunday at 21:00 CEST, C.D. Leganés will have their ambitions set on preserving their excellent home streak against C.D. Lugo. The pepineros have hosted the lucenses in 10 official fixtures, with a history of six wins and four draws for the home side.
Leganés first faced Lugo in the 1985/86 season in the promotion phase while both played in Tercera División, drawing (1-1) before Osa scored at the Luis Rodríguez de Miguel to send the Galicians through to the next round. They next clashed in the third division in 1989/90, with a blanquiazul victory (4-2) with goals from Quique, Soler (2) and Merino, and again in 1990/91 though it ended in a goalless draw (0-0).
Garitano triumphed last season on his return to the dugout
In the 21st century, the contest became a classic of Segunda 'B'. In 2006/7, the pepineros won (2-0) with goals from Juli and Landáburu; repeating victory the following year thanks to Juli once again (1-0). In the 2010/11 campaign, the 2006/7 scoreline was echoed by goals from Ferrán Tacón and Arruabarrena (2-0) but the team was unable to overcome Lugo in 2011/12 where the game finished tied (1-1) with Vicente scoring for the blanquiazules.
The three most recent encounters have taken place in Segunda División. The familiar victorious scoreline and sensation (2-0) returned in 2014/15 with a brace from Chuli, before, in classic fashion, being followed by a goalless draw a year later (0-0). Finally, last season's encounter sets the most recent precedent for Leganés-Lugo, with Garitano's return to the Butarque celebrated with a dramatic (3-2) scoreline with Sabin Merino (2) and Rubén Pardo as the pepinero goalscorers.
