Martín Ortega: “Although we face a difficult situation, everyone must know that we won’t surrender: we will put everything in order to save ourselves from relegation”

C.D Leganés’ general director, Martín Ortega faced the press this morning at Estadio Municipal Butarque after Martin Braithwaite’s termination clause payment by F.C Barcelona was confirmed. Pepineros’ executive explained the damage this implies for the club but also remarked that no matter how difficult the situation is, C.D Leganés won´t surrender.

“The payment of the termination clause was the only way for Braithwaite to leave since the club didn’t considered to negotiate his transfer”

The executive also referred to existing legal regulations: “LaLiga has presented an inquire to the Federación Española de Fútbol. Last night we received a communication by the Federación in which they informed they would not pronounce on something that was not confirmed yet. Once the termination clause was payed this morning, we proceeded to present a formal request to the Federación”

“Current legal proceedings are against equality among clubs, this particular situation creates an irreparable damage for C.D Leganés”

Leganés’ executive also complained about how this particular situation affects the club: “We want to raise our voice. We are finding ourselves in a situation of big and irreparable damage. We can´t understand how a club that faces a long-term injury can proceed with this kind of operation and thus transferring its problem to another club”

“It would be easier to understand this situation if an agreement between clubs were reached. Current legal proceedings are against equality among clubs. We will use everything in our power to face this irreparable damage situation”, the general director expressed.

At the end of the press conference, Martín Ortega sent an optimistic message to promote union: “No one can think that we will surrender. It has been a hard road to get to first division and keep there, we will leave everything on the pitch. We believe in each one of our players and coaching staff. No one can think we are relegated”.
