C.D Leganés’ captain, Unai Bustinza was interviewed by the media after the first individual training session performed this Friday at I.D Butarque. The defender answered the media questions that were sent to the Club. He analyzed today’s situation and reality.
Unai Bustinza reffered to the new normal that should arrive to football “Our sport has contact and we must respect social distance not only performing but also with our families. This is something that will test ourselves. We are normally used to things that can’t be done right now” remarked. “There’s a lot of uncertanity, it is a new situation for everybody. The health authoritites are the ones that must analyze and take the decisions that allow everyone to feel safe”
“It will be different, the team that adapts the better will have better results”
Bustinza reviewd this season’s objectives: “It is like start from scratch, we currently need to sum up points when competition restarts. Teamwork will be key to achieve results, we will see where we can get. It is like starting your car and immediately accelerating it to 200 km/h, we must be professionals and face all the difficulties that may appear, the team that adapts the better will have better results” said the captain.
Unai pictures the return to competition: “It will be different: goal celebrations, defending a corner… Being at Butarque with no people will be hard but it is the responsible thing to do right now. We should bring out the best from this situation as well”. Regarding the trips and concentrations, Bustinza thinks that “it will be hard for us as players to just stay at a hotel room and going out just to train. It is a kind of rare but let’s see what is decided and get there step by step”
“We were like kids with a new pair of shoes on the first training”
The central defender referred to the lockdown and their relationship with Javier Aguirre: “We have had contact with Javier, he is optimistic and tries to put some of that in us. We must do things in the best possible and secure way. He is willing to see and challenge us again” said Bustinza with laugh.
When asked about the different opinions that players may have regarding the return to training, Bustinza thinks that “everyone has his personal situation, I’m not the one to value any opinion. It seems that there is no problem if there is one plyer that tests positive. It is a difficult situation because of the risk of massive contagion but we must wait and advance step by step”.
About returning to the pitch: “The first raining is like going back to school, we have made some mistakes but we were like kids with a new pair of shoes, happy, smiling, even though the session was the hardest it could be… (laughs). It is important to be physically well. Health is an issue that must be valued. Psychologically, there is a lot of uncertainty that we must adapt to, the team that does that the better will get better results”.
“All the decisions to protect the players are welcome”.
Regarding the possible changes to the rules he thinks that none of them could possibly benefit or go against someone in particular: “We all play with the same cards and if some changes are made to protect the players from exposure we should welcome them”
Finally, the Captain referred to the negotiations held with the Club on the lockdown weeks: “This has an economic impact in us all and we should help. Negotiations have been long and with different opinions, but we all are happy to have an agreement. There was a lot of speculation and that does not help at all, but we have managed to do it well and the relationship with the club is good, as always”.
