A total of ten players have been part of C.D Leganés and Athletic Club on the last five years. Both teams are about to face each other this Thursday (21:00h) at San Mamés. It will be the penultimate league match of this season.
Eraso and Erik Morán were the first
This connection between both teams started in 2013 when Javier Eraso arrived to the white and blues from Athletic’s second team. After two seasons as a pepinero he returned to Athletic where he played for two seasons and reached the Spanish Supercup. He later got back to Leganés in 2017 and has played a total of 167 matches for the white and blues.
Erik Morán arrived to Butarque in 2015 to play the 2014/15 season second round. He went to Real Zaragoza but returned in January 2017 to play two more half seasons as a pepinero.
Bustinza, Guillermo, Albizua and Ruiz de Galarreta were part of the promotion team
Guillermo Fernández was part of the team as a white and blue in the 2015/16 season in which the team got promoted to First Division. He scored six goals. Previously he was part of the bilbaínos and played there in 28 matches. Unai Albizua and Iñigo Ruiz de Galarreta were also part of that squad having played previously four and nine games with Athletic respectively.
Unai Bustinza is without any doubt the one with more experience as a pepinero. He is playing his fifth season with Leganés after playing four games with Athletic.
Unai López, Herrerín, Vesga and Sabin Merino helped to consolidate the team at the top
Unai López arrived at the team in the next season, he later returned to San Mamés in 2018 and currently remains there. It is the same case with Iago Herrerín who arrives after playing three and a half seasons at Athletic, arrived to Leganés and returned to Athletic again.
Mikel Vesga wore the white and blue jersey after playing 29 matches as a rojiblanco and now is part of Gaizka Garitano’s team. He played with Sabin Merino who arrive to the team after three seasons at Athletic, he played one and a half seasons at Butarque.
Serantes, Eizmendi and Santamaría, more former pepineros with past at Lezama
There are more football players that have been part of the pepineros’ history even though they did not get to make an official debut with the rojiblancos: Jon Ander Serantes who was a key part of the team in the promotion campaign and the first season at the top until his knee injury. Alain Eizmendi was a pepinero for two seasons in Second Division and was also part of the promotion squad, and Mikel Santamaría who helped the team in the promotion to Second Division campaign and the first in the silver category.
