C.D. Leganés coach Paco López appeared at a press conference after the team's match against Málaga C.F. on Sunday at the Ontime Butarque Stadium, corresponding to the tenth matchday of LALIGA HYPERMOTION, which ended in a 2-0 victory.
The coach assessed the match as follows:
Dedication: “Today is a special day for many women, and I would like to dedicate this victory to women with breast cancer. I dedicate this victory to them and encourage them to keep fighting. I also dedicate it to our fans, who deserved it. I wanted to do this and felt I should make this double dedication.”
First home victory: "One of the keys is to take the lead early on. We always focus on hard work and improvement, and we didn't want to put that urgency on the result at home. But it's true that we all needed it. We struggled to understand the high pressure and, with the result in our favor, we opted to try to cover the spaces behind. We did well, there were moments when Málaga got in behind us. We were up against a very good opponent, and this victory is very important. We may not have played our best game at home, but today we managed to close out the score at 2-0."
Álex Millán: "We're really happy for him because he's a very hard-working guy. He earns it in every training session. We try to get everyone to contribute and help us. Diego has also scored; it's about everyone contributing. We try to find the best starting eleven for each game. It's difficult to understand, but the people who come off the bench are very important because many games are decided in the second half. Our squad is incredibly committed every day and we try to get everyone involved."
Improvement in the last three games: "If you want to find positive data, there is some. I understand that this works through the final result. We were calm because we knew we deserved more, but this is about winning and sometimes the coaches' arguments fall on deaf ears. Our value is in wanting to improve, to be better every day, and that's what will get us where we want to be. It's a long-distance race, and we have to learn to live with external doubts."
Defense: "It wasn't our best game at home with the ball. For some, the previous games weren't good enough, and now this one probably isn't either because we didn't play a great game. Juan made some very commendable saves, but we had almost twice as many shots as Málaga. If you don't have as much fluidity as other times, it affects your ability to play a great game. We'll try to work on it this week, improve, see what influenced it, and continue to improve."
Doubts in the environment: “I haven't noticed any possible doubts. We'll analyze what happened today, but I don't want to focus on the negative. We won, and I want us to focus on the positive. The fans were great again. When the team gets going, you can see that people are excited.”
Marvel: “He had a problem with his adductor and asked to be substituted. We'll see what's wrong.”
Franquesa: “He felt discomfort in his quadriceps in the last training session and the medical staff recommended that he rest this week. It's normal after such a long time, we'll have to adapt to the effort.”
Where the team stands: "I still think we have a lot of room for improvement. We still have a way to go to become the team we want to be. I see very positive aspects. We've played against teams that are expected to be at the top, such as Cádiz, Deportivo, Las Palmas... For many minutes of those games, we were superior. There are reasons to be optimistic, but this is a long, difficult, complicated process. It sounds like a cliché, but you only have to look at the results each matchday. The only doubt I see is that, since from the very beginning you've been labeled as having to get promoted no matter what, when you enter a period of not-so-good results, doubts can arise outside the team and that can have an impact on the locker room. The team that is able to maintain balance during those streaks, the enthusiasm, the ambition, is the one that will achieve its goals. I've been through this before and I know what the pressure, the urgency, and the need are like. This is achieved through enthusiasm, desire, ambition, and perseverance. And we're going to continue to give our all for this club, this dressing room. We have everything we need to make this work, but it will take a lot of effort in a year that is not going to be easy.
