C.D. Leganés head coach Paco López spoke in the press conference after the match between the pepinero team and U.D. Almería at the Ontime Butarque Stadium, corresponding to Matchday 15 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION, which ended 0–3.
The coach assessed what happened during the match as follows:
Personal situation: "It’s not pleasant to hear that shouted from the stands, but it’s part of this world. You live with it and you know that when you lose, it can happen."
Lack of finishing: "That’s the summary of the match—the finishing of one team and of the other. We were superior in many phases of the match, but at 0–0 you have a one‑on‑one and you don’t score, then they score a great goal and the match starts getting complicated. I’m extremely proud of the team, they gave everything on the pitch. If you don’t kill off teams like these, what happens is what happens. We tried by every possible means. We had Cissé’s chance to make it 1–1, and even at 0–2 we felt we could turn it around, but to win matches you have to be accurate in the opposition box. That was the difference."
Dressing‑room atmosphere: "They’re hurt, which is normal after losing. It’s a very mature dressing room with a lot of experienced players. We’ve tried to lift them. Today will be a difficult day, but there’s no choice but to carry on—we’re professionals."
Psychological weight: "If we were mentally weak, we wouldn’t have generated so much against a top team like Almería. I don’t think that’s the issue. The team showed up at all times, showed courage. The first goal didn’t come from poor defending of the area. I don’t think it’s a mental issue—it’s about finishing."
Makeshift defence at the end: "Lalo asked to come off; already at half‑time he didn’t know if he could continue. We put Diawara at centre‑back, and then Jorge was already struggling. We had to take risks, which leads to having some players out of position, but you have to do it. We kept generating chances, also when Pauwels came on on the left. We lacked goals—there’s nothing else I can say."
Rubén Peña: "We’ll have to wait, but it’s a muscle injury. He felt a sharp pain and we’ll see what grade it is."
Objectives: "Ours is to win the next match. Setting long‑term objectives, without ignoring the club’s initial target, doesn’t lead anywhere. It must only be winning the next match, especially in these circumstances. There’s a lot of league left; if we had won today, we’d be very close to the top spots. That’s how it is."
Fans’ anger: "I fully understand them—their anger, their frustration, their nerves—because they want to see their team win, a team that has come from the First Division. All we can do is give everything, be more accurate, and win matches. We thank them again for their support from the start. We would have loved to give them a win today—there’s little more I can say."
Pressure of playing at home: "It shouldn’t be like that, and it mustn’t be like that. I don’t think it had an influence. We played a very good match against a very powerful opponent, a team we outplayed in many phases. We’re being more accurate away than at home, but we shouldn’t focus on that. Playing in your stadium should be an advantage."
