C.D. Leganés was unable to pick up any points in their matchday 39 fixture of LALIGA HYPERMOTION against Real Racing Club (1-2). Maguette and Villalibre, from the penalty spot, scored for the Cantabrian side, while Asue pulled one back for the "pepineros."
Leganés started with two changes to their starting eleven, with Marvel and Cissé returning to the side after serving their suspensions at Riazor, replacing Figueredo and Roberto López. Leganés started well, with a dangerous first arrival in the opening minute that Naim was close to head in.
Maguette Put Racing ahead in the first half
In the 7th minute, Diego did manage to head a good cross from the left by Juan Cruz, but Eriksson caught the number 19's header. In the 9th minute, Naim prevented Racing's first dangerous attack by intercepting a goal-bound pass at the last second. The clash remained open, and in the 12th minute, Juan Cruz had a chance with his right foot from the edge of the box following a run by Lalo, but his shot went high.
In the 25th minute, Racing took a 0-1 lead after a strike from Maguette from the edge of the area that left Juan Soriano with no chance. Lega tried to recover with a good run down the left by Naim, but Diego narrowly missed connecting with the cross. The visitors held their narrow lead until halftime.
Leganés had chances in a second half marked by strong play, but to no reward
With no changes after the restart, the visitors tried to slow down the pace of the match against a Lega side that struggled to reach Eriksson’s area. In the 54th minute, Igor Oca made his first substitution, bringing on Guirao for Diawara in midfield. Guirao himself had a chance in the 59th minute following a set-piece, but his volley was blocked by the Cantabrian defense.
Again, a dangerous cross from Naim out wide almost found Diego in the 61st minute, and Duk came close to an equalizer in the 63rd minute following a corner, as did Naim with a cross-shot during a good spell for Lega. This continued with Dani Rodríguez hitting the crossbar directly from a corner kick, nearly scoring an "olympic goal." Leganés had another double chance in the 67th minute for Diego, which Eriksson parried initially before the second effort went high.
Villalibre, following a highly controversial penalty awarded after a lengthy review, made it 0-2, and Asue narrowed the gap in the closing minutes
Igor Oca refreshed the attack in the 69th minute by bringing on Óscar Plano and Álex Millán for Dani Rodríguez and Diego García in search of the equalizer. Naim kept trying, notably in the 72nd minute with a powerful long-range strike that whistled just wide. Pulido and Asue were the final substitutions for the Blue and Whites before a highly controversial penalty was awarded by Marta Huerta, following a lengthy review, for an incident between Pulido and Villalibre; the Racing striker converted to make it 0-2.
In stoppage time, Asue reduced the deficit for Leganés, but there was no time for more and Racing took all three points. Lega remains on 42 points in the table and will play their next match on Monday the 18th (20:30 CET) at home once again at Ontime Butarque against S.D. Huesca.
