As if it was today… 19 years ago Leganés received a historic Real Bétis at Butarque. It was the second time that the verdiblancos played on the pepineros’ home after winning at Luis Rodríguez de Miguel Stadium on 1994.
This time the match was played at Butarque and Bétis was competing hard with Sevilla, Atlético de Madrid, Tenerife and Recreativo to reach the promotion to first division. Leganés was fighting to survive on the category with six matchdays remaining on the league.
Leganeés squad was: Raúl Arribas, Julián Ronda, Fede Bahón, Macanás, Lambea, Óscar, Merino, Puñal, José Mari, Miguel Ángel and Makukula. Álex, Morales and Barbarín played on the second half. Luis del Sol’s Real Bétis squad had players such as Denilson, Joaquín, Capi, Prats, Amato and Gastón Casas, some of them with international and first division matches experience. Lega started winning the match with a goal by Puñal but the Béticos mañanged to score through Gastón Casas with just 15 minutes remaining for the end of the match.
Both teams summed one point to fight for their respective objectives on the league.
