As if it was today… four years ago Leganés won against Llagostera at Butarque (2-0) on the penultimate matchday of the league, this allowed the team to be one step away from first division. The pepineros beat the catalanes with goals scores by Gabriel on first half and Miramón on the second half.
Everything was ready at Butarque for the possible and historic promotion. Math was simple: Leganés had to win and wait for Nàstic (third and one point behind the white and blues) not to win against Lugo. Those results would certify Leganés’ promotion to first division for the first time in 88 years of history.
Butarque was full. Asier Garitano’s initial squad was: Serantes, Víctor Díaz, Mantovani, Insua, César Soriano, Sastre, Timor, Miramón, Gabriel, Szymanowski and Rubén Peña. Alberto Martín, Toni Dovale and Asdrúbal played on the second half.
Leganés started winning early in the match after Gabriel received the ball from Sastre and turned around to shoot and beat René. Gabriel was close to score again on the first half. In the meantime, Nàstic was also winning its match at Lugo (would win it 0-3). Lega needed to focus on its game to depend on itself for the last matchday.
On the second half it was Miramón the one that increased Lega’s lead after a cross by Timor. Leganés summed three more points and needed to win against Mirandés at Anduva on the last matchday of the season in order to get promoted to first division.
