As if it was today… four years ago Leganés won against Real Oviedo at Carlos Tartiere Stadium (0-1) and depended on themselves to get promoted to first division. Gabriel’s goal and the penalty kick stopped by Serantes set an important moment for the pepineros’ history.
Leganés was second on the league followed by Nàstic, a team that had played the previous day and won against Osasuna. The pepineros needed a win to continue on the promotion zone and not depend on the tarraconenses’ results for the next matchadys.
Asier Garitano’s initial squad was: Serantes, Bustinza, Mantovani, Insua, Albizua, Sastre, Timor, Miramón, Gabriel, Szymanowski and Asdrúbal. Rubén Peña, Alberto Martín and Víctor Díaz got to play on second half.
The pepineros, wearing their green uniforms, had some occasions to score their first goal on the first half through Gabriel and Asdrúbal but their goal arrived on second half when Gabriel scored the match’s only goal after a shoot that Miño couldn’t stop.
A couple of minutes later, Arcediano Monescillo, the match’s referee called a penalty kick after a foul against Toché. Serantes made history when he stopped Susaeta´s kick.
Leganés continued to depend on themselves to get promoted to first division on 88 years of history. The team needed to win the next matches against Llagostera at Butarque and Mirandés at Anduva.
