As if it was today… four years ago Leganés won against Bilbao Athletic at San Mamés (1-2) and continued its way to promotion. Szymanowski and Gabriel goals allowed the pepineros to sum up three key points.
It was the 36th matchday of the season and Leganés was leader. It was a great opportunity for the team after Alavés and Real Zaragoza, the team’s immediate chasers on the table didn’t get three points on their matches. Asier Garitano’s initial squad was: Serantes, Bustinza, Insua, Mantovani, César Soriano, Sastre, Timor, Omar Ramos, Gabriel, Szymanowski and Asdrúbal. Rubén Peña, Ruiz de Galarreta and Víctor Díaz played on the second half.
Bilbao Athletic started winning the game with a goal scored by Santamaría on the first half. Leganés reacted on the second half with a goal by Szymanowski who ran with the ball and kicked it into the net. Some minutes later Gabriel scored through a header after a corner kick by Omar Ramos. Leganés’ fans had the opportunity to have another reason to celebrate on May 2nd, Madrid Community holiday.
Serrantes had to save the team on a couple of opportunities after Aketxe’s shots to the goal. At the end it was a win for the pepineros who continued their way to promotion.
