As if it was today… nine years ago Leganés took an important step to qualify for the promotion playoffs after winning against Extremadura (1-3) at Francisco de la Hera de Almendralejo with two goals scored by Jonatan Valle and one by Mario.
It was the 35th matchday of the season. The pepineros were fighting on the top 4 spots of the league standings with Lugo, Castilla, Guadalajara and Universidad de Las Palmas. The team needed a win and José María Rico’s initial squad was: Rubén Falcón, Martín Ortega, Mario, Tetteh, Antelo, Zazo, Tonino, Jonatan Valle, Nakor, Ferrán Tacón and Arruabarrena. Guille Guindal, Edu Ramos and Elvis played on second half.
All the goals were scored on first half. Jonatan Valle was the first to score after a cross by Tonino. The locals managed to tie up the match with Rafa’s header. Mario scored the 1-2 on a quick counterattack play and Jonatan Valle scored the final goal (1-3).
Two games were remaining for the end of the season and Leganés needed to win both in order to qualify for promotion.
