As if it was today… one year ago Leganés got one point on its match against Celta at Butarque (0-0). The pepineros kept some distance from relegation spots after another matchday of the season which did not have many occasions for both teams.
Mauricio Pellegrino’s team were 7 points away from the relegation red zone with 12 remaining points to be disputed. Winning would allow the team to mathematically save from relegation but losing would mean a complicated situation for the pepineros because they were facing Celta, a direct rival. Leganés’ initial squad was: Cuéllar, Nyom, Bustinza, Omeruo, Siovas, Jonathan Silva, Óscar, Recio, Vesga, Braithwaite and En-Nesyri. Carrillo, Santos and El Zhar entered into the pitch on second half.
The match started after an honor kickoff by Mariano Callejo, the club’s photographer for more than 20 years. There weren’t many occasions for neither both teams. There was a possible penalty kick for Leganés that wasn’t called by the referee. The match’s best option was for Celta through Tiago Aspas but Omeruo managed to save Lega just in the goal line.
The final result allowed Leganés to sum up a point and be 7 points away from relegation spots with 9 points to be played on the rest of the season.
