As if it was today… seven years ago leganés visited Islas Canarias to fave Club Deportivo Marino. The pepineros coached by Pablo Alfaro faced the final stage of the season fighting for promotion. That victory at Tenerife allowed the team to practically secure a playoff spot.
With five matchdays remaining Leganés was six points behind the league’s leader Tenerife and five points away the fifth of the league. A victory at Los Cristianos was needed to confirm a spot on promotion playoffs.
The pepineros initial squad that day was: Rubén Falcón, De la Vega, Corona, Víctor Gómez, Dani Gómez, Aicart, Valleros, Batres, Óscar Vega, Carlos Martínez and Dioni. Álex Bernal, Fer Ruiz and Robert played on second half.
Pablo Alfaro’s team scored first through Dioni before half time. On second half, Carlos Martínez scored the second and definitive goal. Real Oviedo’s loss allowed the team to reach the second position of the league.
