As if it was today… three years ago Leganés won against Las Palmas (3-0). It was a key result to save from relegation. Two goals by Luciano and one by Guerrero allowed the pepineros to get away from relegation spots on the league.
There were 5 remaining matchdays for the end of the season and Leganés was three points away from Real Sporting after they tied the day before against Espanyol. Asier Garitano’s initial squad that day was: Iago Herrerín, Tito, Mantovani, Siovas, Diego Rico, Rubén Pérez, Timor, Samu García, Gabriel, Luciano and Guerrero. Bueno, El Zhar and Bustinza played on second half.
The first half was balanced between both teams. Diego Rico had an important occasion that went to the crossbar. The goals were scored on the second half: on 54’ Guerrero took advantage of a Javi Vargas error and assisted Luciano for the first goal. Some minutes later Guerrero scored the second after a bad ball clearance by Las Palmas. Luciano scored the last goal via penalty kick.
The win at home was key to get away from relegation spots with 4 matchdays remaining for the end of the season.
