As if it was today… twenty years ago, Leganés won against Levante at Butarque (2-0). Survival was practically secured. Barbarín and Puñal were the ones that scored the goals that allowed the pepineros to get the three points. Raúl Arribas stopped a penalty kick.

It was the 38th matchday of the 1999/00 season. Leganés was coached by Enrique Martín wh replaced José Antonio Fernández from the 9th matchday on that season. The team reacted with Martín and was ranked on the mid of the table. That day the white and blues initial squad was: Raúl Arribas, Óscar, Julián Ronda, Fede Bahón, José María, Merino, Puñal, Teixeira, Trigueros, Barbarín and Sigüenza. Pachón, Antonio López and José Mari played on the second half.

Leganés started winning after Barbarín managed to beat Veiga on the first half. Some minutes after that a penalty kick was called by the referee against Lega but fortunately Raúl Arribas managed to stop Salillas’ shot.

On second half, another penalty kick was called by the referee but this time it was against Levante. Patxi Puñal scored the second and last goal of the match. The pepineros got the three points which ultimately allowed the team to remain on second division.
