C.D. Leganés' coach, Borja Jiménez, appeared at a press conference this Sunday at the end of the match between the team and R.C.D. Espanyol at Butarque, corresponding to the thirty-fifth round of LALIGA EA SPORTS, and which ended with a victory (3-1) for the Blue and Whites.
The coach highlighted the high level shown by his team and the competitive attitude of his players from the first minute: “We have had the bad luck that this year salvation is going to be very expensive, but that also speaks well of the level of everyone. Today we showed that we are ready to fight until the end. I'm happy, especially for the players, for the way they do everything that is asked of them.
As for tactical management, the coach explained the reasons behind his approach: “We knew that we could not repeat the usual line of three. We wanted profiles that had no problem leaving their position and defending in open spaces. Renato and Valentín have been extraordinary. We have worked hard during the week on this and today it worked out well, although tactically the decision was very well thought out, even if it hadn't worked out”.
Regarding the preparation for the match, he stressed the importance of the previous work: “We saw it at half past one. We were clear about how we were going to score the first goal, and it came out, but sometimes it doesn't come out. These things are not by chance. There is a huge amount of work behind it, and I'm glad it worked out well, for them and for the way the team behaved”.
The coach also wanted to defend his players from external criticism: “The problem is not the failure. The problem is the nonsense that is said. We live in a society where it is allowed to lie and insult. I am very happy for Diomande, he is a great and very special player”.
Looking ahead to the final stretch of the championship, Borja insisted that the dressing room is focused solely on the goal of maintaining the category: “Regardless of what happens after June 30, there is only one cause here: to keep Leganés in the First Division. We are very committed, nothing deviates us from that objective”.
To conclude, the coach assessed the competitive context of the day: “Everyone is playing for something. Today we won, and that opens the field to more teams. We have finals ahead of us, as we did last season. We will fight until the end.
