C.D. Leganés look to celebrate their first game back on home ground this Monday (22:00 CEST) with a victory against Burgos C.F. Following the league opener at the Reale Arena, Garitano's men return to play at the Butarque two months after their last home fixture, now bolstered by the prospect of increased fan attendance.
Traditionally, Leganés have performed well in their first home games of the league season, whether they be on opening weekend or during the second matchweek. In fact, out of their last 20 opening games at home the blanquiazules have only lost on two occasiones, losing 1-0 against C.A. Osasuna in 2019/20 and R.S.D. Alcalá in 2005/6. Most recently, their first home clash last season ended in a 1-0 victory over U.D. Las Palmas thanks to a goal from Juan Muñoz.
Outstanding debuts against Atlético de Madrid, Alavés, Real Sociedad, Córdoba and Real Unión de Irún
Leganés have had some outstanding home debuts in recent years though. In the first division, the pepineros beat Deportivo Alavés at the start of the 2017/18 season (1-0) with a goal from Gabriel, and drew two matches, the first in their history in the top flight, against Atlético de Madrid in 2016 (0-0) and against Real Sociedad in 2018, where they equalised a 0-2 deficit with a brace from Nabil El Zhar.
In the silverware category, the pepineros have also experienced notable debuts: in 2015, their promotion season, Asier Garitano's side beat Córdoba C.F. 3-1 with goals from Eizmendi, Borja Lázaro and Szymanowski. Other notable duels are those of 2013, against Real Unión de Irún, with a 2-1 comeback in the final stretch with goals from Fer Ruiz and Pírez in Asier Garitano's debut as coach; 2011, with a win against Real Oviedo (3-2) with a hat-trick from Víctor Fernández; and 2009, with a 4-1 win against Racing 'B' in Luis Ángel Duque's debut in the dugout.
A single precedent for Burgos C.F.
On this occasion, Burgos C.F. will be Leganés' first opponent at Butarque in the new 2021/22 season. An opponent that Leganés have only faced once before, in the 2001/02 season: on 20 October 2001, with a goalless draw at Butarque (0-0), the same scoreline that was repeated in the second leg at El Plantío on 10 March 2002.
