Great performance to earn a point in Gran Canaria (0-0)

C.D. Leganés earned a point in their away match against U.D. Las Palmas (0-0), in a game corresponding to Matchday 4 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION. The “Pepineros” were the better team and created the best scoring chances, though they had to settle for a draw.

Rubén Albés made just one change to the Leganés lineup from the victory over Eldense in the previous matchday: Álvaro Morata made his starting debut, replacing Patrick Soko as the Blue-and-Whites’ striker and thus playing his first minutes as a Leganés player a week after arriving on loan from Italy’s Como 1907.

Zico and Naim had Leganés’ best chances in a very strong first half for the Blue-and-Whites

Morata himself threatened in the first minute of play with an early run that was ruled offside by a narrow margin, as Leganés got off to a good start and tried to take the initiative early in the match. In the 12th minute, Leganés had a crystal-clear chance and came very close to scoring first: Rubén Peña took a corner kick from the left, and Zico connected with a first-time volley that crashed off the crossbar.

The match evened out midway through the first half, with both teams trying to take the initiative. In the 29th minute, another clear-cut chance for Leganés: a great pass behind Ignasi Miquel’s back set up Naim’s run, but he failed to finish well with his right foot in the one-on-one situation. Las Palmas responded in the 31st minute with a set-piece play that Luca thwarted on a shot by Miyashiro, and in the 32nd minute, another cross-shot by Naim went just wide. With no further dangerous chances at either goal, the teams went into halftime.

With no substitutions after the break, Lalo saved Las Palmas’ first chance in the opening minute of the second half, preventing a goal by the home team. Lega responded with a run by Naim that was finished by Morata, but the goal was ruled out due to an offside call on the blue-and-white academy player. With the Yellow-and-Blacks pressing harder toward the Leganés goal, the Blue-and-Whites threatened on the counter, particularly through Naim.

In the 60th minute, Gharbi came close to scoring after a good assist from Morata, but the Franco-Tunisian couldn’t find the net as Caro came off his line. In the 66th minute, Rubén Albés made a triple substitution, bringing on Sancris, Dani Rodríguez, and Soko in place of Rubén Peña, Zico, and Morata in an effort to inject some fresh energy into the team. Sancris himself had a chance in the 72nd minute with a cross-goal shot from the left that grazed the post.

Ignasi Miquel and Soko were the stars of Leganés’ final attacks; the team deserved the victory but remains undefeated

Leganés had another chance in the 78th minute and deserved the goal. This time it was Ignasi Miquel who came close to making it 0-1 after a great assist from Gharbi, but Caro made a last-second save. Soko would have another chance to score his first goal for Leganés, but once again the yellow-clad goalkeeper blocked his shot with his foot following a lightning-fast counterattack. In the final minutes, Suleiman came on for Kechta as part of another offensive push by Rubén Albés, with Leganés pushing until the very end and refusing to settle for a draw—though this time the goal didn’t come, and the match ended with the initial 0-0 score.

Another away point for Leganés, which remains undefeated and now has eight points after four matchdays, three of which were on the road against three of the promotion favorites. The “Pepineros” will play on the road again next week, on Sunday (9:00 p.m.) at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium against C.D. Tenerife.
