C.D. Leganés introduced Unax del Cura as a new member of the team on Wednesday. The young forward, who joins from C.D. Mirandés and made his debut last Sunday in Girona, expressed his excitement about starting this new chapter.
The club’s director of soccer, Andrés Pardo, welcomed the player to kick off the presentation ceremony: “Thank you to his family and those close to him. Thank you to Unax for his trust; he’s already made his debut in an official match, and we’re very happy to have him here. I’ve known him since he was eleven years old in Villarreal’s youth academy, and we hope he’ll bring us a lot of joy. He’s full of enthusiasm and ambition.”
Unax, for his part, said he was “very happy to be here, very excited. The club has placed a lot of trust in me, and I hope to repay that trust.”
Unax: “I hope to be here for many years and give my best.”
Thoughts on his debut: “When I came on, I felt comfortable despite the opponent, who was pressing hard. The team played well, and we earned a point on a tough field against a good team. Let’s hope things keep getting better and we can bring the three points home from Oviedo.”
Memories of Mirandés: “Last year, the situation was tough for both teams. There was a lot of pressure on the field—it was like a cauldron—and the fans really turned up the heat. I remember being a little nervous at first.”
Qualities as a forward: “I like playing as a striker and getting behind the defense, but I also like coming back to receive the ball and hold it up.”
Sistema: “It can help me get down to receive the ball, play, and link up with the midfield.”
The club's commitment: “I'm very happy and excited to be here. Andrés knows me well, and we trust each other a lot. I hope to be here for many years and give it my all.”
Leganés’ project: “When they told me about it, I knew right away that I wanted to be here. I really like the project, and I’m very happy.”
Andrés Pardo: “We have a competitive roster. We have to be ambitious, but keep our feet on the ground.”
Afterward, Andrés Pardo answered questions from the media present at the event:
The last two weeks of the transfer window: “There’s still time. At this point, we’ll have to see, but we have a very good foundation. There have been a lot of changes, and there are still some arrivals and departures that could happen. But given the way the team is currently put together, we have some leeway to sign players because we have versatile players who can fill different roles. There will surely be more moves.”
Javi Hernández: “He’s a player on the club’s roster. The situation where he could have left meant his preseason was unusual, and he wasn’t at the same pace as his teammates, which could work against him. He’s training with the group, getting back into the swing of things. Something might happen—or it might not.”
Juan Soriano’s departure: “It is by no means a contract termination, as I’ve already said here, and it bothers me when people say otherwise. That would be a unilateral decision. It was a mutually agreed-upon resolution in which both parties were involved.”
Possible departures of Melero and Roberto López: “There are still a few days left in the transfer window, and we’ll see what happens. They’re under contract and are players on the club’s roster. They know where we stand, and we know where they stand, but we’ll see if those situations play out.”
Positions to strengthen: “It will also depend on who leaves. We currently have five center backs on the first team, plus the youth players who went through preseason and are performing very well. If someone leaves there, we’d need to bring someone else in. Up front, we’re being proactive, and there might be a few more moves.”
Key signings: “It’s unlikely we’ll sign more than a couple of players. We have a well-balanced roster, and we have to consider the difficulty of the division we’re in. Just like Girona, there are very strong rivals, but I think we have a competitive roster. Things are looking good, but we have to learn from past mistakes. We need to be ambitious, but keep our feet on the ground. Anyone can beat you, and there are teams that start the season with key players and key roles in place.”
Possible interest in Raba: “We’re open to everything. We’re very ambitious. Every player we’ve signed is very important in their respective positions and roles. We’ll continue to be ambitious and won’t set any limits on ourselves in any situation that could benefit the team in the days remaining.”
