C.D. Leganés earned a point against Real Mallorca in Luis Carrión’s debut as the Pepineros’ head coach. Luvumbo gave the visitors the lead in the first half, and Álex Millán equalized in the second half for the Blue and Whites.
Luis Carrión made as many as six changes for his debut on the Leganés bench, bringing in Raúl Fernández, Rubén Peña, Franquesa, Diawara, Dani Rodríguez, and Álex Millán. In addition, the team lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Diawara and Gharbi as the central midfield duo; Soko, Dani Rodríguez, and Sancris as attacking midfielders; and Millán as the lone striker.
Luvumbo put Mallorca ahead by capitalizing on a rebound in the 33rd minute
Mallorca had the first chance of the match through Luvumbo in the 9th minute, against a Leganés side looking to dominate possession, with a dangerous early run by Franquesa that failed to find a finisher. Leganés responded in the 15th minute with a right-footed shot by Sancris that narrowly missed the target from the edge of the box. In the 22nd minute, a strong run by Rubén Peña down the right was thwarted by Arnau Tenas, and the defense cleared Soko’s subsequent shot.
In the 33rd minute, Mallorca took the lead through Luvumbo, who capitalized on a rebound from Raúl Fernández off a shot from the right to make it 0-1 and put the visitors ahead. Leganés tried to respond, and in the 37th minute, Millán nearly reached a killer pass from Sancris on the left. Sancris had another chance in the 39th minute, forcing Arnau Tenas to make a great save and clear the ball for a corner. The visitors held the lead going into halftime.
Millán, assisted by Sancris, tied the game in the 57th minute
With no substitutions at the start of the second half, Gharbi and Soko had chances in the 47th minute but failed to finish. In the 57th minute, the equalizer came: Sancris made a run down the left, the No. 22 sent the ball into the heart of the box, and Álex Millán was there to tap it into the back of the net, making it 1-1 with his first goal of the season.
Tension mounted in the match, with the stands fully behind Leganés. Zico Buurmeester was Luis Carrión’s first substitution, entering the game in the 65th minute to replace Gharbi. Shortly after, Naim and Unax replaced Dani Rodríguez and Álex Millán in an effort to revitalize the Blue-and-Whites’ attack. And, in the final stretch, Kechta and Andrés Campos breathed new life into the midfield, with Diawara and Soko coming off.
Unax had the best chances to secure the win for Leganés in the final minutes
Unax had the best chances for a Leganés side that deserved more in the closing stages. On the first, his powerful right-footed shot was parried by Arnau Tenas, and on the last, already in stoppage time, he headed a precise cross from Naim, but once again the Mallorca goalkeeper prevented a goal that the crowd had already begun to celebrate. In between, Montero stepped in to block a shot by Calatayud, preventing the score from becoming 1-2.
Leganés snapped its four-game losing streak and earned a point at home in Luis Carrión’s debut as head coach. The Pepineros now have twelve points in the standings, and their next match will take place this Wednesday in the first round of the Copa del Rey against Trival Valderas at Ontime Butarque.
